We Indians are familiar with the usage that allows each artist to display his skill vis-à-vis the particular music being performed. Placing Brubeck as the principal artist, the pattern ran true to Indian type. Each artist showed his paces within the limitations of rhythm or music, and the instrumentalists each improvised on the fixed theme or fragment. The pianist was, of course, outstanding. The alto saxophonist has all the sax appeal (pardon me!) that he needs. The contrabassist is astonishing[ly] good and the drummer is nearly as good as some of our best Indian mridangists and tabalchis. That, believe me, is praise worth giving.*
